Canine Good Citizens TestCanine Good Citizen Testing Information
The CGC Test is offered the first Saturday of every month at Bark Avenue Pet Supply. (Scheduling conflicts sometime arise) The test is given by an AKC certified evaluator. Registration is required - sign up before April 1st at the store. Please contact our staff for more information.
What is the purpose of the Canine Good Citizen Program?
The purpose of the CGC Program is ensure that our favorite companion, the dog, can be a respected member of the community because it has been trained to be well behaved in the home, in public places, and in the presence of other dogs.
What is the Canine Good Citizen Test?
The test is noncompetitive and dogs are not required to perform with the same precision required in formal obedience. To pass the CGC test, your dog must pass all 10 items of the test, which can be found on the American Kennel Club website www.AKC.org CGC Testing Information
Who is invited?
All dogs, including purebreds and mixed breeds are embraced by and welcomed in the Canine Good Citizen program.
Age Requirements for Dogs:
There are no age limits for dogs taking the CGC test. Dogs are welcome to participate in the CGC tests when they are old enough to have completed all vaccinations. However, the AKC does recommend that if the dog is tested as a puppy, it is important for the owner to have the dog re-tested as an adult. This is because behavior and temperament can change over time. | |

| | Raw Food SeminarRaw Food Diets for Pets Seminar - 10:00 AM to Noon
Our pets depend on us to make healthy choices about what they eat. A healthy diet is one of the biggest factors in your pet’s longevity, joint health, circulation and overall well being. Bark Avenue Pet Supply in Mesa has worked with many customers to find foods that are appropriate for the needs of their pets. Recently, more and more customers are asking the staff at Bark Avenue Pet Supply about feeding raw food diets.
In response to customer requests for more information, Bark Avenue Pet Supply will present a seminar on the Raw Food Diets for Pets at on Saturday, February 27, 2010 from 10:00AM – 12:00. Dr. John M. Sparks, DVM will be the speaker. He will share his personal knowledge about pet diets and how after many years of research and veterinary practice, he has become a proponent of raw food for pets.
Dr. John M. Sparks has managed the Nutrition Research Laboratory, developing the NASA diets for the space program. Later he was selected to do nutrition research for the Mark Morris Foundation, developers of the Hills Prescription Diets for Pets. During these years, he started two small animal practices. More recently, he has developed and sold supplements for horses.
When his wife started began to look for a better diet for their family dogs, Dr Sparks researched the options available. After an exhausting investigation, they began feeding their four Yorkshire Terriers a raw diet. The resulting changes in their dogs were remarkable: skin and ear issues decreased, energy level increased, much better hair and coats, smaller stools and more.
Dr. Sparks seminar on the Raw Food Diets for Pets will cover: • Health and nutrition overview of natural diets • Benefits of Raw Diets • Benefits of Bones • “All Life Stages” Explained • 100% Complete and Balanced – What about Supplements? • Safety in Handling Raw Diets
Please call 480-832-2510 for information, reservations and directions. Bark Avenue Pet Supply is located at 3109 E McKellips Rd. Mesa AZ.
